Today was the first day of my internship. In the morning, as I was getting ready, I was wondering if my attire wasn't "business" enough, or if i was going to mess up my hair and makeup before I even got there. Luckily, I found out that I wasn't going to be working alone. Nuzzly, and I would both be working there together. My nerves eased a bit when I had found out. On this first day, the company was having a meeting, so we had to attend and take some notes. Unfortunately, we cannot disclose that information at the moment because it's confidential and we signed a contract. The meeting was a new experience for both of us because we got to see how conferences really work. A person or group presents an idea to the whole room, there are questions being asked, then the whole group comes to a consensus, based upon the majority vote. I remember when the meeting was coming to an end, we had to introduce ourselves, and it was terrifying because I am a very shy person and a terrible speaker. When the meeting ended, we came into the office, and Ms. Jacqueline explained to us a little more about what goes on in the chamber and how it works. It was interesting for me to see how much work really goes into these type of things.
When CVLCC had only recently announced that Juniors would become interns at companies, instead of going about their normal everyday routine, I panicked. I have volunteered at places before, and worked with a variety of different people, but never had an actual job or internship. Because the experience will be new, it is terrifying to think about what those two weeks will be like. Regardless of being scared and nervous, I am also excited, because I know it will look good on college applications and I would gain experience. Initially, I was looking forward to interning at Cymer, but they rejected the request. I then asked Alere, but never got a response. Due to the career I want to pursue, it's difficult to find to find companies that will allow a 16 year-old to participate in their projects. I started researching over and over again for engineering internships, but they all had requirements I don't meet. My teacher then referred me to the National City of Commerce. I reached out to the CEO, Jacqueline L. Reynoso, and had an interview with her. I am having mixed emotions about this company, just because it is out of my comfort zone, since they are a company based on business.

Why intern here?CVLCC High School has given Juniors the opportunity to take time off of school for two whole weeks, in order to be able to participate, as an intern, at a company of their choice. The process of finding an internship was difficult due to certain circumstances, like the time period, age, etc. I was interested in the National City Chamber of Commerce because, although my dream is to become an engineer, I'd like to experience what it's like to be in a business environment and have the opportunity to acquire new skills and knowledge.
